ReSeeD User Guide
Logging in (authenticating) to ReSeeD
To login to ReSeeD, you must have either a standard RUB staff login ID, or an ORCID ID that has already been registered to use with ReSeeD. Click the "Login" button on the top right of the RDMS screen. You will then be presented with the login form. If you are an RUB staff member you should use the RUB-LoginID option (this will redirect you to a Shibboleth login form). If you are an external collaborator (already registered to use ReSeeD) then you should use the ORCID option (this will redirect you to the ORCID login form).
Viewing your user dashboard
First, log-in (authenticate) to ReSeeD. The User Dashboard is the starting place for newly-authenticated users. It contains links to various functions, and is the best place to begin if you want to work with your own *works (datasets)* and collections.
As an authenticated user, you can always get back to this screen by clicking on your username which is displayed on the top right of the blue header bar and selecting "Dashboard" from the drop-down menu.
Adding a new collection
From your User Dashboard, click "Collections" in the grey sidebar on the left, then click the blue button: "ADD NEW COLLECTIONS".
The "New User Collection" form is displayed. In the form, add a title for the new collection and (optionally) a description. You can also (optionally) add more metadata about your new collection by clicking the black button: "ADDITIONAL FIELDS".
When you are finished, click the blue button: "SAVE". The Edit User Collection: [TITLE OF NEW COLLECTION] form is displayed, together with a green notification bar saying "Collection was successfully created."
Adding a new work (dataset)
From your User Dashboard, click "Works (Dataset)" in the grey sidebar on the left, then click the blue button: "ADD NEW WORK (DATASET)". A pop-up form is displayed, inviting you to choose from different types of work that may be added. Unless you are adding a work to a particular CRC collection, choose the option: "Dataset (Dataset works)". Then press the blue button: "CREATE WORK (DATASET)".
The "Add New Dataset" form is displayed. Fill in the form, making sure you complete the required fields (marked with a blue label: "Required"). Select a "visibility" option in the right sidebar, and check the button for "I have read and agree to the Deposit Agreement". Click the "Files" tab to add folder or files from your PC. Click the black button: "ADD FOLDER" or ADD FILES" and select files from your PC.
Finally, click the blue button: "SAVE". A view of the new work is displayed, with a green notification message saying; "Your files are being processed by ReSeeD in the background. The metadata and access controls you specified are being applied. You may need to refresh this page to see these updates."
Viewing one of your works (datasets)
From your User Dashboard, click Works (Dataset) in the grey sidebar on the left. Your "Works (Datasets)" view is displayed. Click on the hyperlinked title of one of your works (datasets), and a view of the work (dataset) is displayed.
Downloading one of your works (datasets)
From a view of one of your works (datasets), click the black button: "DOWNLOAD ALL". A pop-up window asking "Do you want to allow downloads on…" **may** be displayed: If it is displayed, click "allow".
A zip file is downloaded to your PC. Inside this zip file is a folder containing the files from the work (dataset), and a metadata file called "metadata.json" containing ReSeeD metadata for the work (dataset).
Add a work (dataset) to a collection
From a view of one of your works (datasets), click the grey button: "Add to collection". A pop-up window is displayed inviting you to "Select the collection to add your files to:".
Begin typing the name of your collection and select it when it appears in the text box. Click "SAVE CHANGES".
The collection page is displayed, and your work (dataset) is included in the list of works.
Search ReSeeD for works (datasets)
It is possible to search ReSeeD in a limited way if you are not logged in, but by logging in you will gain more access to content and your search results will be more successful).
Navigate to the RDMS home page by clicking on "Home" at the top of the screen. Enter a search keyword or phrase in the "Search ReSeeD" search box near the top of the screen. The blue "drop-down" control on the right of the search box can be used to restrict your search to only your Works or Collections, but it defaults to searching "All of ReSeeD". Click the "GO" button.
The search results page is displayed. If there are no results for your search then the message "No results found for your search" is displayed, and you are invited to "Try modifying your search". The search criteria are indicated at the top of the search results page next to the label: "Filtering by:"
If there are too many search results, it is possible to refine the search by applying filters using the "facets" displayed on the left of the search results. Depending on the search results, you may see facets such as "Author", "Keyword", Type" etc.
Select one of these facets, and then select a value from the list that appears under the facet.
The search results are immediately updated to reflect this new filter. (Note that the search results will not necessarily change, because it is possible that this filter applies to all of the current search results). The search criteria indicated at the top of the search results page next to the label: "Filtering by:" are updated to reflect the additional filter.
You can change the order of results by clicking the "Sort by relevance" button and selecting a different criterion by which to order the results - e.g. select "date uploaded". The search results are re-displayed in the new sort order (by date uploaded) and the button label is changed to "Sort by date uploaded".
You can cancel the current search criteria so that you can start again with a fresh search. Click the "Start Over" link at the top-right of the search results. The search results page is refreshed to show everything in the RDMS (because no search criteria or filters are being applied).
You can also filter the results **without** entering a search term in the "Search ReSeeD" search box. Select one of the facets on the left, and select a value from the list which appears there. The search results are immediately updated to reflect this new filter. (Note that the search results will not necessarily change, because it is possible that this filter applies to all of the current search results). The search criteria indicated at the top of the search results page next to the label: "Filtering by:" are updated to reflect the additional filter.
